Narnia

For those of you who missed the Narnia display at the BPL... I took pictures. They're not great -- it was dark, and I didn't want to use a flash, both because of the glass and because I was trying to be discreet. Will try to clean them up more later, but meanwhile, here they are.

Note that these are the actual props from the movie, not reproductions. WETA, as usual, does damn fine work.

While I was in London, Marks and Spencer had Narnia merchandise for sale, including this adorable little armor costume

I also saw the usual assortment of movie tie-in chocolates, and was totally shocked that they didn't do the obvious and have branded Turkish delight. [I sure would've bought some to take back with me.]

I saw some Turkish delight in a specialty store the other day, and joked to the woman behind the counter that they should have a tie-in to Narnia -- and then ended up having to explain the book. I was so excited years ago when I found some in the market and could finally try it. Terrible stuff.

I tried it long ago and was indifferent. Ian loathes it.

I've had conversations with coworkers about Narnia in the past, so knew I had to bring some back if I could. Outside of exorbitant boxes, I could only find a square smaller than a Chunky bar with a chocolate coating. Cut it in slices and gave everybody a sliver.
Everybody had the same reaction (as did I when I first tasted it): complete surprise as it's nothing like we expected from reading. I think most of us pictured something more toffee-like.

My former manager looked it up and it's apparently rosewater-based.
