It's official -- 84 Charing Cross Road has been selected for the next Bare Bones!  My blurb:

In 1949, a struggling young New York playwright sent a letter inquiring about second-hand books to an antiquarian book store in London. So began a 20-year friendship between Helene Hanff and the booksellers at 84, Charing Cross Road. Taken from their actual letters, this story will amuse you, charm you, and send you running to your nearest library.

It's a really sweet and funny show, and I can't wait to see it brought to life in front of an audience.

Auditions are on March 15, and the show will be one night only, Thursday April 19, so mark your calendars now, or better yet, go sign up to audition!

Yay! I can generally handle a fairly involved rehearsal schedule. The big thing for me is finding time alone to commit everything to memory. That need is totally erased in staged reads, which I love. It's all the fun work of theatre without the mind-numbing work!

Not to mention I love staged readings.

For us LJers, could you by any chance post a character analysis? Or, if you're feeling lazy and willing to humor me, what parts might be played by males in their 20's?

Sure, here's what's on the audition sheet. I could absolutely see you reading for Frank!

Since the play takes place over the course of twenty years, actors from 20-­‐70 are all encouraged to audiiton.

HELENE HANFF. (Second syllable pronounced to rhyme with “rain”.) Exuberant and unaffected, a struggling young writer and self-­‐educated bibliophile in New York, passionately in love with England and literature.

FRANK DOEL – 29. British accent. Delightfully dusty, a proper Englishman, with a dry wit and a kind heart hidden behind his British reserve.

OTHERS (The director will work with one actor to develop distinct personalities for these multiple characters):
CECILY FARR. British accent. Book store employee. A friendly young mother.
MEGAN WELLS. British accent. Secretary to the bosses. Businesslike and extremely organized, always has the right word.
MAXINE STUART. Helene's friend, a glamorous Broadway actress

Sooooo if I come I can read as the "distinct personality" characters, right? Because honestly, I will buy three wigs if I have to just to be in the show.

We did a Bare Bones about gay Asian men with 3 women and one man, all Caucasian. I'm definitely open to cross-casting, if you can convince me you're the best choice to play the part!
