[livejournal.com profile] farwing mentioned that a man came into Pandemonium wearing a strand of Mardi Gras beads. He explained that he is from New Orleans and he was hoping that people would start wearing Mardi Gras beads to show their support, instead of putting ribbons on their car or whatever.

I like this enough to want to spread it. I've got some Mardi Gras beads around from Pride (ok, so they're rainbow colored, but good enough) that I'm wearing as a bracelet. I think it's a nice way to have a visible reminder of New Orleans, both for myself and for people around me, and it's a celebration of the spirit of New Orleans. I want that history and culture and spirit to survive so I can experience it for myself some day.

Pass it on.

I read about that this morning. The idea started in Cleveland, as a way to show solidarity from a city equally as poor as New Orleans. I happen to have 2 strings of Mardi Gras beads, and I think I'm going to do what you're doing, wearing them as a bracelet.

I like this idea. Thanks for the suggestion. I am leading services on Friday night. Perhaps I will bring some mardi gras beads to decorate the table with our candlesticks.
