I got nine solid hours of sleep last night. Aaaahhhhhhh.

The show is going great and I'm having so much fun with it, even if it doesn't leave enough time for sleep. The Saturday night performance in particular was amazing; a large and enthusiastic house, great energy, and [livejournal.com profile] lillibet and I finally gave the performance I knew we were capable of. I don't know what happened, but from the time we got on stage, everything was just a little different, a little realler and more intense and just *right* somehow. Lines came out with a different emphasis or timing or gesture, our connection was a little tighter, and all the time I was aware of how good it was and terrified that by noticing it I would lose it, but no, it just kept going until the end. The applause didn't even matter that time, I knew we had nailed it. After we got offstage E and I went running to find each other and celebrate and call [livejournal.com profile] dpolicar who sadly was not there for that performance.

After that, I was worried about the Sunday performance -- I've only ever had that experience once before and that was the last performance of Murder, so I was afraid that the next show would be a let-down in comparison. Plus we were both tired and it was a small house, so our expectations were pretty low. But the house, though small, had wonderful energy, and while the performance wasn't as electric as the night before, we found that a lot of the things we had discovered in the previous performance had magically stuck. Phew! I'll be curious to see what happens this weekend, after we've had a chance to rest some.

I've been sneaking into the kitchen when I can to catch other performances, and everyone seems to be getting better and better. I was laughing so loudly at [livejournal.com profile] jmspencer's that I had to clamp my hand over my nose and mouth so tightly that I couldn't breathe in order to keep from making too much noise.

I'm really proud of this show, I think it's a wonderful collection of plays and everyone is giving such great performances. If you haven't seen the show yet, try to come this weekend -- we've still got shows Thursday, Friday, and Saturday.

oooh yay!

So glad you are feeling good about your acting. You took a chance and found that you are good at it! My sister has started acting, also. It has really built up her self-confidence. She said, "I feel like I can do anything now." She had been behind the scenes, directing and producing shows for her kindergarten classes, for the middle school students, and for children's theater. On her 50th birthday, she set a goal to be on stage as a professional actor. So she tried out for parts in her local community theater. She has been a nun in "The Sound of Music," Mrs. Bedwin (with a speaking part and a small singing solo) in "Oliver," and Maud (also with a small speaking and singing part) in "The Music Man." She was also an extra for a TV pilot that should be showing sometime in the fall. David and I just got back from seeing her in "Beauty and the Beast" - summer stock in North Conway, New Hampshire. She got the part of Mme. Grand Bouche, the Wardrobe. Opening night was on her 53rd birthday. I am very proud of her - she achieved her goal in just 3 years! She got paid for this part -not much, but she is definitely a professional actor now. She said that summer stock is very different from community theater. They put the whole play together in just 3 weeks. She called it "Body Boot Camp" and spent all her earnings on a good pair of athletic shows for rehearsals and "character shoes" for her costume that fit over her bunions - a good way to spend her salary, I think. I am proud of her, *and* of you. Whatever you want, go for it. I so hope to see you on stage one of these days.

A DVD! Could we have a movie night showing? Alas, we will not be able to see you in the play tonight. But a DVD of the show would be a good second choice. And seeing you *in person* would be a delight. I am off for a week and a half - to the Jewish Renewal Kallah in PA.
