We had the callbacks for the T@F summer one-acts tonight. I was pretty nervous, because there were a lot of incredibly talented people there. I was asked to read twice for one play that I wasn't so sure I'd be right for, twice for one that I had read and found sort of interesting, and not at all for my top choices.
But when I went to read for the second play I discovered that I connected more deeply with the character than I had thought on previously reading the script, and managed to give what felt like a really solid reading. Of course, other people gave really good readings for the part too, so I was really nervous and trying to prepare myself that it would be ok if I didn't get cast in anything. But as it turns out -- I got the part!
This will be my first big role in a play ever, and I'm a little nervous about it, but after all the memorization for Murder in the Cathedral I'm confident I can handle that part of it. And this is what I've been wanting -- a part that is real enough and deep enough and enough like myself that I can really feel it, can hopefully blur that line and get beyond just giving a decent performance to really acting.
Plus, I get to be a girl again!
