We went out with a bang last night -- a generous audience (I even got an exit hand! squee!), the playwright in attendance (I met him afterwards, and he was very sweet; he complimented my performance even though my part as written was a butler named Charles), a smooth and organized strike, and a cast party that went until somewhere around 3:30am.

I will miss Sarah a little; I really enjoyed playing that part, and I'm happy with the work I did on it, and pleased with some of the discoveries I made throughout the run. A few of us had some great acting and character discussions in the green room throughout the show, and I think some good things came out of those for everyone.

And I'll definitely miss the cast and crew -- I met a lot of fabulous new people, made some wonderful new friends, and had some really special conversations and hugs and silliness with old friends. Every cast is special, of course, but we really did have a pretty amazing group for this one, and a higher than usual proportion of "keepers" among the newbies :)

I'm looking forward to my next adventure -- maybe the one-acts, maybe the new improv program T@F is starting -- but for now, I'm going back to bed! Wake me in a week or two. Or maybe the spring.

(Oh, and happy Purim! I did my drinking last night, and I'm having leftover hamentaschen from the cast party for breakfast, and going to a megilla reading this afternoon. And no, I'm not going in my Sarah costume.)

Oh! I didn't realize Sarah's part was originally male, too. More props to Mike (and/or whoever made the suggestion and the decision to change the role to female). You were so great in that role. Congrats on getting an exit hand! I nearly gave you one myself, but it wasn't quite the right audience for it --and though I'm usually willing to laugh alone I am not usually quite brave enough to clap alone. Was it after the "I'm not that kinda woman" bedroom scene? (I also nearly gave James an exit hand, too.)

The 'Charles The Butler' to 'Sarah the Maid' was the planned gender-switch. Mike and I decided that right off the bat (since we wanted to increase the number of female parts and that one was relatively easy to do)

Renfeild was the happy accident, Jamianne just blew us away with her audition and so we went "Okay we're switching that one too!". :)

So did I.Sometimes switches like that (especially a well known character like Renfield) seem really forced. This worked *beautifully*

Seriously? The one walking in on the nubile young daughter of the house in the middle of the night was supposed to be the elderly *butler*?? That would... really have changed the scene, I think, and not for the better. :-P

Anyway, yay! I'm glad it all went so well.

Well, it makes Lucy's "What are you doing in my bedroom?!" shock and the servant's "Please don't tell your father about this!" pleading response, make even *more* sense. But that said, that element isn't *necessary* to make the scene work. I wondered a bit about the degree of Lucy's outrage, but certainly not enough for it to be a problem. I really liked the change!

Although, backstage, we were snickering every time Lucy said "That doesn't explain what you're doing near my bed" to Sarah (or facsimilie).

You didn't have to deal with Tracy Hall.

Sarah and Renfield were written as male characters?? As an audience member unfamiliar with the script and source material, I had no idea.
