Had a lovely, if not very restful, weekend.

Friday night I had an invite to shabbos dinner at [livejournal.com profile] tapuz's, along with [livejournal.com profile] chanaleh. I even managed to make it to shul first, for the first time in too many weeks. Dinner was delicious (I need to find that pomegranate chicken recipe!) and the company was entertaining. I even made it home by about 11pm.

Saturday I made it back to shul, since it was the aufruf for a couple I like. I saw the bride at lunch and she invited me to the wedding the next day, so I had to go home and ransack my closet for something I could wear to an Orthodox shul. (Hmm, didn't I just do that last weekend?)

After shul I went home and slept, and was awakened at some point in my nap by [livejournal.com profile] jimmystagger, aka my Bad Influence, calling to demand my presence at [livejournal.com profile] alfie1981's house for a party that evening. I had to wait until shabbos was over to call him back and get the address and directions, but then I pulled on some random clothes figuring I'd go over for an hour or two, then come back and get a decent night's sleep for once. I ended up leaving the party at 2am, having spent about 5 hours sitting on one friend's lap getting a back rub. Oh, darn. :)

Sunday I had brunch with [livejournal.com profile] miss_chance, [livejournal.com profile] palmwiz, [livejournal.com profile] infinitehotel, [livejournal.com profile] istemi, Kelly, and Pat at the Neighborhood. 45 minute wait for a table, but the food is actually worth it. Then we ditched Pat -- er, I mean sadly lost his presence, and went on to the Museum of Science for the Lord of the Rings exhibit. Too gorgeous. It was great to see so many of the costumes and artifacts up close. The gift shop was disappointing; I went in actively hoping to spend money, but there was just nothing I wanted to own. Not even an Arwen navel ring.

[livejournal.com profile] miss_chance was kind enough to drop me off at the wedding in Brookline, where I again met up with [livejournal.com profile] tapuz and [livejournal.com profile] laurens10 and lots of other wonderful people from shul. The wedding was beautiful, and I cried at the look on the bride's face when she saw the groom for the first time. Pup didn't end up making the wedding, so I got to steal his place card and be him for the evening. (I drank lots of Coke.) Sadly, I was also exhausted to the point of feeling ill, so I ended up grabbing a ride with a couple was leaving around 9:15, came home, and fell into bed. I was so tired I even managed to turn down another invite to socialize from [livejournal.com profile] scholargipsy and my Bad Influence -- thanks to [livejournal.com profile] alfie1981 for calling off the hounds :)
Tonight, Vivaldi's Gloria singalong at Old South Church. I realized last week that I thought I knew this piece, but what I actually know is the second violin line that I played in high school, plus bits of the soprano line from my sister. I went out and got the sheet music and I've been reading it on the T while listening on my iPod, plus going out at lunch to sit by the fountain where I can sing quietly and not be heard. We'll see how well I do, but I'm sure it will be fun.

Sounds like a lovely weekend, indeed. Glad you finally got some sleep.

Wasn't the exhibit shop a shame? Jason and I were completely prepared to drop some major ducats on something cool--only "something cool" was not on offer. What I really wanted was a good framed print of one of the production drawings, but there was absolutely nothing there. Big mistake.

I've often thought it would be deeply cool to be the person who wanders around museums saying "This! Let's make a reproduction of this! The marks will cough up the dough for this!" The first time I had the realization I would like to do that was at the London Zoo, where they should really be selling enamel pins of this little guy.

The thing that surprised me the most was how cheap-looking the one reproduction of the elven clasp was. I've seen much better versions of it elsewhere.

[livejournal.com profile] scholargipsy was my Bad Influence last night. He pestered and badgered me to match him shot-for-shot of tequila, until we'd each had six!!
