Why do you think we have the bookshelves that we do? :) We just need more wallspace and the ladder...

It also includes some nice stern librarians.

Of course, it also includes books of which I'd have thousands if it weren't for the fact that there are limited places to put them. Well...more than most but...we have a library that's a 3min walk and a system of 40+ libraries from which to electronically request books from :D

I actually do have a local geek friend who had a gorgeous room like that in his gorgeous (huge) house, but most of the houses I've seen them in are non-geek. Not to take away at all from the super-coolness of it, but it's a pretty traditional element, really. I think most libraries of that sort are probably full of books that the residents will never read. They don't deserve them!

The only requirement for my dream house (until you just put the idea of that library in my head) is a vault--Scrooge McDuck style-- filled with pillows, and a diving board (of course).

I love the library idea though!

Since we did not buy my dream house, we have to make do with a library with no rolly ladders. But it does have an extension wing, which all libraries need!

The ceilings would have to be inordinately tall for the library to require a ladder!

Oh yes!

Put me squarely in the 'Of course, doesn't everyone's?' camp. And I want the leather armchairs, the reading lamps with green glass shades, and the large antique floor-standing globe too, while I'm putting in my order.

I have floor-to-almost-ceiling bookshelves along one wall of our study now. The top shelf is at 2.4 m, so a ladder would be handy. But we're going for the chinese vibe so instead it all coordinates with black and red laquered cabinets, and a Chinese daybed and red lanterns on order.

I like the idea of a big library, but not the rolling ladder idea. Maybe its just a tall person thing, but I don't like the idea of having to climb up for anything. It's just a convenience thing.

In fact, I've seriously considered building additional walls in my existing home to host more bookcases.

"Of course."

But I wouldn't assume that's true of everyone. ;)
