The 32nd Iditarod started 8 days ago. The leader is now in Unalakleet -- 893 miles down, 219 miles to go.

And people say extreme sports are a new thing.

I can't help but read that name as "Idiotarod".

Anyone who's given birth would never say extreme sports are a new thing.... ;P

(Sandro reading this over my shoulder says "giving birth is not a sport!")

Hey, I wonder if you could get corporate sponsors?

Some couple tried that a couple of years ago, kind of. They tried to sell naming rights for their as-yet-unborn child. To corporations. Thus, they'd be raising AOL Smith or Chrysler Smith, etc.

Restoring just a tad of my faith in humanity, no company actually took the bait. But I cannot recall what the parents ended up naming the kid.

Contrast with the DARPA robot race that happened last week:

I love the Iditarod! I think it's awesome - a fantasy of mine to be able to actually race it.

Iditarod, I didn't

This is such a cool race.

I have a fantasy of doing it one day.

It's just a fantasy, mind you. :-)
