Had a fabulous dinner last night at Oleana with
buckydt. We were adventurous and went for the 5-course (plus dessert!) vegetarian tasting menu, and by God if the chef didn't even make me like things with chick peas in them. (Luckily, there was nothing with lentils, so his skills were not tested that far.) I had a glass of a lovely Riesling that I actually enjoyed and finished (both unusual for me), which is probably part of why I don't actually remember the details of what we ate, sadly enough.
I know my first plate had the Warm Cretan Olives with Rigani & Sesame Seeds along with some really good hummus with tomatoes and and an olive on top. I forget what Ethan's first course was, but it involved pomegranate seeds. After that it's all a blur. There was a dish that had chantarelle mushrooms, which I've never had before and enjoyed. There was a salad with paper-thin roasted beets, and some sort of creamy stuff with pecans in it at the bottom. For most of the courses we had different things, which made for fun sharing and trading of bites. The two courses where we both had the same were good enough to want our own anyway -- Spinach Falafel, Tahini, Yogurt with Beets & Curly Cress, and the Ricotta & Bread Dumplings with Red Wine, Porcini and Kale. The ricotta dumplings were really good (and I hate ricotta), but the sauce they were in was simply incredible. And I've discovered that Tiggers really, really like porcini muchrooms. :)
This was my second time at Oleana, and I highly recommend them!
