I’m getting some money back on my taxes and I’m thinking of blowing it on toys. Specifically, I’ve been itching up upgrade my PDA for a while now. I’m looking at the Tungsten T3, but I’d love to be able to use it with a bluetooth phone for net access. Anyone have any info on this? Any idea how well it works or what phone I’d need?

The T3 is without question a sexy machine. But I don't think Bluetooth has a lot to do with why; most Pilots can be connected to most cell phones using a short cable. And Sony is about to introduce a new model -- the TH55 -- which has the same screen as the T3, in tablet form like the T3 instead of the usual Sony clamshell, plus a camera and 802.11 instead of Bluetooth. Typical of Sony there are some odd design choices with the buttons -- but the T3 also has strange buttons. There will also be a TJ37 with 802.11 and camera but only 320x320.

If you really want to try a Bluetooth phone, I'm about to replace mine and you're welcome to play with it once I do.

It's a Sony Ericcson T68i (dual-band GSM) with AT&T. On the plus side, it is small enough to fit in the coin pocket of my jeans, it has terrific battery life, and roaming coverage in Canada is very good (other overseas locations would require tri-band GSM). On the minus side, it has the worst user interface known to man, and coverage in the US is bad enough that I can only use it about a third of the time. I think these minuses outweigh the pluses, and I'm currently deciding between a boring, cheap Nokia candy bar or an expensive Treo 600. What's holding me back is that I want T-Mobile service so I can get calls at work, and they're not actually offering the Treo 600 yet. Rumor is that they're waiting for the nicer Treo 610 later this spring.
