I don't get it. There seems to be a weird conversation being repeated in all the media that makes no sense to me. It goes something like this:

Anti-war person: "This was is unjustified and we don't want to see people killed."
Pro-war person: "You're anti-American and you're not supporting our troops."

I haven't heard one anti-war person say anything about our troops except that they'd rather not see them killed, and that they don't think they belong over there in the first place. Most of them make a point of being very appreciate and respectful of the people in the armed forces. So where is this meme coming from? Is it a hold-over from the Vietnam-era backlash? Or did it get planted somewhere? Anybody got a clue?

I think this is an example of the good/evil dichotomy that often infects American thinking and which this current administration has pushed. For kicks go back and analyze some of Bush's speeches. Just count the number of times he uses the word "evil" in reference to whatever he disagrees with. Note the instances of the if-you-are-not-with-us-you-are-against-us mindset.

So, by extension if you are not in favor of the war you "must" be anti-troops. There's no attempt to reason or understand the difference. Support is blind and unquestioning. Do not attempt to move the curtain, you might see a naked (statue) breast or a famous painting back there. That would be unpatriotic too.

Yes, we did see some of this during Vietnam but it has existed before that and has gotten (much) worse since. Sorry to be so depressing.
