i might be in the area in march sometime, but i don't know if i can squeeze in a visit to boston! it's for a chellesley wick's birthday... but i will let you know! so that you can come kidnap me, if you like. ;o)
this is why IP logging is useful. You can turn it on near the bottom of this page and Sam Spade (i love the name) makes it pretty easy to track them down.
Yeah, so far I've left it off because I support the idea of true anonymity. And I can always delete comments that really bother -- I deleted the original comment from this person, which I thought was way over the line. Now I'm just curious who it was!
True anonymity is hard to get on the internet and in all honesty, I don't think it should be available (but that's definitely just me). If you're saying something that needs an anonymous shield, it's either inappropriate or you need to learn to be more honest with your friends. Additionally, I've NEVER found that people have taken advantage of that sort of anonymity for anything other than malicious intent. I left logged anonymous comments open for months, in spite of several harrassing comments (that went on for months...). I've had tons of issues regarding it and at this point, I say screw everyone else.
Additionally, it's possible to ONLY log anonymous comments. That way, someone could create a fake LJ account and comment with that, and not have their IP logged. However, at least in that case, you can report them to LJ abuse. There's also a little warning underneath the comment posting box if you do have it turned on - no one is being tricked into leaving their IP addy, at least.
