I remember a moment that feels to me like the instant at which we stopped being simply people who knew each other and started the process of really becoming friends...at a party at steve & Tom's house, when I mentioned to you that I had heard you were putting some space into a relationship that had become problematic, and that some people thought it a harsh decision, but that I understood and supported you in it--and you gave me a big hug and thanked me and it felt as though we were suddenly communicating on a whole new level.

I remember sitting on the steps outside the First Church during Act I of All in the Timing one night, with you sitting on my lap in an evening gown and wearing a fake moustache, and a passerby giving us a VERY strange look.

I remember sitting outside the Pru learning to share what were then tought stories about our relationships then current and past. We talked, and talked, and it was a real meeting of the minds. It felt so good to have someone special to share with, and it created a great deal of trust. You offered me good advice which I think I might have even taken. :)

so, there you were... all velveted (is that a word?) up and looking sexy. you had a companion with you who was also quite a looker. somehow we started talking (i don't remember how that happened, do you?). next thing i knew, the two of you were dragging me (willingly of course) to a certain house in cambridge with a certain crazy basement.

the rest is history. :)

it's weird to think that both of those places are no longer in existence, but we're still around so that's a good thing!

Dancing with you at Man Ray during a cast night out. You had this huge smile on your face, and I suddenly saw you in a totally new way. I think that's the night we became friends.

Seriously, walking in the August rain and our formal wear to Rudy's, you barefoot in the warm water pouring down the streets, me with an icepack under my vest to keep me from melting. Your smile, which illuminates.
