voice recorder

I'm taking voice lessons, and the teacher suggested I bring a voice recorder. So far all the ones I've found are either crazy expensive (and the tape recorder was more expensive than the digital thingummies!) or don't work on a Mac. The nice guy at the Apple store suggested getting a minidisc recorder from eBay, but before I go that route I thought I'd see if anyone either has something I could borrow for a while, or has any guidance on buying such a beast. Thanks!
