I got nine solid hours of sleep last night. Aaaahhhhhhh.
The show is going great and I'm having so much fun with it, even if it doesn't leave enough time for sleep. The Saturday night performance in particular was amazing; a large and enthusiastic house, great energy, and
lillibet and I finally gave the performance I knew we were capable of. I don't know what happened, but from the time we got on stage, everything was just a little different, a little realler and more intense and just *right* somehow. Lines came out with a different emphasis or timing or gesture, our connection was a little tighter, and all the time I was aware of how good it was and terrified that by noticing it I would lose it, but no, it just kept going until the end. The applause didn't even matter that time, I knew we had nailed it. After we got offstage E and I went running to find each other and celebrate and call
dpolicar who sadly was not there for that performance.
After that, I was worried about the Sunday performance -- I've only ever had that experience once before and that was the last performance of Murder, so I was afraid that the next show would be a let-down in comparison. Plus we were both tired and it was a small house, so our expectations were pretty low. But the house, though small, had wonderful energy, and while the performance wasn't as electric as the night before, we found that a lot of the things we had discovered in the previous performance had magically stuck. Phew! I'll be curious to see what happens this weekend, after we've had a chance to rest some.
I've been sneaking into the kitchen when I can to catch other performances, and everyone seems to be getting better and better. I was laughing so loudly at
jmspencer's that I had to clamp my hand over my nose and mouth so tightly that I couldn't breathe in order to keep from making too much noise.
I'm really proud of this show, I think it's a wonderful collection of plays and everyone is giving such great performances. If you haven't seen the show yet, try to come this weekend -- we've still got shows Thursday, Friday, and Saturday.
