weekend update

The show opened on Friday with a strong performance by both cast and crew, giving a great performance and keeping the show running smoothly despite some minor emergencies. (Hey, it was only a *little* fire.) It felt so good to finally do it in front of an audience, and it was great to have friends out there watching. The traditional Underbones outing followed the show, and I had a raspberry margarita *before* my food, so it was a very happy affectionate evening. :) It's so great to see that special alchemy start happening, as the group for this show starts to bond. It's hard to remember the time before we started performing All in the Timing when the people who I love so dearly now were just strangers, and already the same thing is happening with the new gang.
Two shows on Saturday. The first one started in daylight, and it was very odd to be able to see the audience at the start of the show, especially since there were so few of them -- I think it threw us off a little. Felt very low-energy, and I was having trouble paying attention when I wasn't actually speaking (the chorus spends much of the play standing around the room or kneeling next to the stage but not actually involved in the action, and I usually try to stay in character and listen to what's going on). We had a few major performance snafus in the chorus, but nothing the audience seemed to notice, and by Act II we were nervous enough about screwing up to pay more attention and get back into it. But the late show -- the late show rocked. We were ON. Very focussed energy, the chorus was tighter than usual, and Thomas actually brought me to tears with one speech. We did have one technical glitch when an electrical cable got accidentally unplugged and we lost most of the lights, but we just kept going under what light there was, the house lights got turned on after a few minutes, and we got the lights back before the all-important murder scene.
Last night was also formal night, so after the show I got back into my black leather camisole and long chiffon skirt and went out with the hordes to take over ManRay. Not my usual scene -- I didn't know or particularly like most of the music, it was loud and got really crowded, and I was feeling self-conscious about my dancing skills compared to some of our totally hot babes, but still, it was cool to see T@F taking over the dance floor -- and the stage, and the cage -- and I felt comfortable and secure enough to even get into the cage for a gang for one song.
All in all a great weekend and it's not over yet. But I know most of this week will just be marking time until Thursday night when it all starts again...
