OK, I’ve been talking this up for a while now, time for the Real Official Invite.

The short version:
Who: You! Plus SOs, friends, people you drag in off the street...
What: Party! A luau in honor of my 35th birthday, to be precise
When: Sunday October 3, 2pm
Where: 72 Powderhouse Blvd Apt 2, Somerville MA
How and Why are left as an exercise for the reader.

In my eternal quest to stave off the endless Boston winter, I’ve chosen a Hawaiian theme for my birthday party. So dig out that blindingly ugly Hawaiian shirt or throw a parka on over your bikini and come on over to help me celebrate. Party starts at 2pm and ends when you all get bored or I get tired. There will be authentic Hawaiian food and music and non-authentic frozen mudslides, and everyone will get lei’d (you didn’t actually expect me to resist, did you?). Veggie food or drink contributions are welcome but certainly not expected. Email me for more info or directions.

You know that the ceremony surrounding a luau is the ceremonial cooking, carving and eating of a whole pig right? What are you going to use instead?

So, should I be trying to put together a Hawaiian/surfing playlist for my iPod to help get me into the proper frame of mind?

Amusingly, a simple search for "surf" gets me a bunch of They Might Be Giants tracks from the EP "The Spine Surfs Alone", and the lone Don Ho track I have is his version of "Shock The Monkey".

I also have a couple of authentic hawaiian tunes to offer to the sound mix. They were given to me by a man who went native in Hawaii for a while and was thrilled to share the mix. Honestly, they are really nice, but I think it would be better if someone mixed a little something more east coast in every couple of songs or so. There is only so much ukulele that a person can take.
