The horror
Aug. 18th, 2004 11:57 amEverything was fine when I woke up this morning. The sun was shining, birds were chirping, and I had internet access. I checked my email, did some surfing, went to take my shower, and then -- nothing. No email. No web. Rebooted my machine, and nothing. I was late anyway so I sent to leave for work, thinking that it was probably some issue with the cable modem and it would Just Work when I got home again But right outside my door was a shoebox containing my router that had been happily housed in the apartment downstairs, quietly feeding me my internet fix. The downstairs neighbors are moving out at the end of the month, and there was a note saying that the cable modem billing cycle ends on the 18th, so oh well no more service here’s your router.
Arghhhhhhhh!
Called Comcast immediately and made an appointment for them to come give us service, but the first date they have is NEXT THURSDAY.
Aaaaaarghhhhhhhh!!!!!
Thank goodness for my Palm Pilot/cell phone hookup. At least I’ll be able to read email and LJ from home, but I won’t be able to write email very easily (no SMTP server for the mail program on the palm -- to write email I have to use a Palm SSH client and try to deal with Pine on the tiny screen.)
It’s going to be a long, long week.
