Barbie Girl
Sep. 30th, 2009 05:41 pmI feel like I should post something about Never After, and what a fabulous time I had doing it, and what amazing audiences we had, and how grateful I am to have had the chance to be a part of it, and how much I miss everyone from the show.
But I went to Sephora yesterday and saw something that appalled me enough to get me to actually post.
I went in to pick up my free birthday lip glass set (T minus 3 days until I hit the big 4-0! Woooo! Ready or not, here I come. Also, holy shit.) While I was there, I asked a clerk for help finding some 70s disco-style makeup, for when I make it back to the Donkey Show. We looked at some fabulous Urban Decay eyeshadows, and a few other products, and then... then she showed me this. Barbie⢠Loves Stila All Doll'd Up Eye Shadow Palette. That's right, Barbie. I'm really confused. Are adult women supposed to want to wear makeup like a plastic doll? Or are they marketing to the 8-year-old hooker crowd? The colors are, in fact, pretty much what I'm looking for for the disco thing... but there is no way in hell I am going to support that marketing decision. (The line of Smurf makeup, for some reason, baffles me but does not quite infuriate in the same way.)

Date: 2009-09-30 09:52 pm (UTC)A couple summers ago - summer 07, I think, MAC did a Barbie line as well - it was all hot pink and super girly shades. The hot pink lipstick I used on people for the show was from that line. I miss it so. I'm such a sucker for things like that. They are really made for people like me.
FWIW, you are always welcome to raid my kit. :)
AND.......happy early birthday, lady!!

Date: 2009-10-01 01:42 pm (UTC)However, I do agree that Stila's overall market plan is in the toilet, which is a shame since the line used to be one of the best. I'm wearing one of the all time greatest shadows ever today - Stila's Kitten.
And Stila's in a LOT of $$ trouble, too.
I heartily suggest looking at Makeup Forever for all your super pigmented, long lasted Disco glam needs. That line *rocks*
