I feel like I should post something about Never After, and what a fabulous time I had doing it, and what amazing audiences we had, and how grateful I am to have had the chance to be a part of it, and how much I miss everyone from the show.

But I went to Sephora yesterday and saw something that appalled me enough to get me to actually post.

I went in to pick up my free birthday lip glass set (T minus 3 days until I hit the big 4-0! Woooo! Ready or not, here I come. Also, holy shit.) While I was there, I asked a clerk for help finding some 70s disco-style makeup, for when I make it back to the Donkey Show. We looked at some fabulous Urban Decay eyeshadows, and a few other products, and then... then she showed me this. Barbieā„¢ Loves Stila All Doll'd Up Eye Shadow Palette. That's right, Barbie. I'm really confused. Are adult women supposed to want to wear makeup like a plastic doll? Or are they marketing to the 8-year-old hooker crowd? The colors are, in fact, pretty much what I'm looking for for the disco thing... but there is no way in hell I am going to support that marketing decision. (The line of Smurf makeup, for some reason, baffles me but does not quite infuriate in the same way.)

Oh... oh dude. You have no idea how much I covet that palette. I've seen it before.

A couple summers ago - summer 07, I think, MAC did a Barbie line as well - it was all hot pink and super girly shades. The hot pink lipstick I used on people for the show was from that line. I miss it so. I'm such a sucker for things like that. They are really made for people like me.

FWIW, you are always welcome to raid my kit. :)

AND.......happy early birthday, lady!!

Yeah, I remember the MAC collection. It was kind of awful, IIRC.

If you want the SLB stuff, sign up at Stila - last email I got from them offered all sorts of discounts on that line.

Yeah, it seems unlikely that little girls would be shopping in Sephora. But it is likely that tweens/teens would be. I see many 12-13 year olds as well as older teens wearing bright make-up. It does seem young, but I can see this sort of thing really appealing to them.

I'd think it could also appeal to the 8-year-old "playing dress-up" crowd.

Sephora is a bit high-end for kiddie dress-up toys. Home of the $30 lipstick, at least last time I bothered to darken their door. I consider $10 to be an expensive lipstick, thanks.

But then, I don't really consider make-up (or any other toiletries, really) to be an enjoyable luxury item. I consider them utility items. I completely fail to understand Lush, too. I am aware that this is not an ordinary female worldview, but I live and let live.

i think they're going for the nostalgia/cutesy angle. it's the same reason i bought hello kitty lipgloss from mac when shopping w/ victoria.

dude... the key to enjoying anything in the beauty industry is to not try and understand it. trying to force it to make sense might break your brain.

Oh the Stila Loves Barbie set is definitiely being marketed to an older crowd. I think a lot of little girls like that Brats crap more than Barbie.

However, I do agree that Stila's overall market plan is in the toilet, which is a shame since the line used to be one of the best. I'm wearing one of the all time greatest shadows ever today - Stila's Kitten.

And Stila's in a LOT of $$ trouble, too.

I heartily suggest looking at Makeup Forever for all your super pigmented, long lasted Disco glam needs. That line *rocks*
