Had the Best Day Ever yesterday.

The majority of the day was spent at [livejournal.com profile] alfie1981 and [livejournal.com profile] ironpoet's [livejournal.com profile] iron_wedding, which was truly lovely. The ceremony was really lovely. The priest clearly knows and loves Mike and Kerri, and the church was full of loving friends and family and community. And the looks on Mike and Kerri's faces were... well, enough to make me tear up again thinking about it. And I already soaked through one hanky at the ceremony. [livejournal.com profile] bismuthobsidian made a lovely groomsman, and [livejournal.com profile] victrix666 looked lovely in her bridesmaid's dress. (And yes, there are pictures!) The bride and groom honored me by asking me to take part in the ceremony with a reading, which meant more to me than I can say. I don't think I got all of the Catholic protocol quite right, but I'm pretty sure G-d understood :)

After the ceremony came the reception, a smashing party. As you entered you reception hall, there was a table displaying the thousand cranes that Kerri and her family and friends and students had folded in several large glass jars, and an arrangement of cherry tree branches hung with cranes labeled with the guests names, serving as place cards. Mine had pattern of words on the paper, but it took [livejournal.com profile] kalliejenn2 to help me figure out that they were the words to the dreidel song!

After the bridal party entered and Mr & Mrs Mike and Kerri Babish were formally introduced, they walked to the head table to the dulcet tones of "Danger Zone" — the bride's choice, I am told. The first dance was to an Ella & Louis duet (and now I'm forgetting which — Love Is Here To Stay, maybe?) They looked amazing together, but then, they've been dancing together from the beginning, so that's not surprising.

[livejournal.com profile] narose and [livejournal.com profile] kalliejenn2 and I braved the dance floor to get the general dancing started, but given that crowd, it didn't take a whole lot. We rocked out to 80s music and that modern stuff all those kids are dancing to these days and everything in between, including a conga line to Gloria Estefan. And two of [livejournal.com profile] ironpoet's cousins put on an amazing performance of Irish step dancing, complete with glittering costumes.

The delicious meal was topped off with wedding cupcakes by [livejournal.com profile] bacall; lovely little cakes with frosting and edible orchids on top. Delicious, flower and all!

Sadly, I had to leave early to make call for the show. I was so tired from all of the day's excitement that I was concerned about getting up enough energy for the performance, but I managed to pull it together and give a good show, I think. And I'm in the first one-act, so after 10 minutes I could get offstage and go collapse for the rest of the evening. My copy of Harry Potter had been delivered from Amazon that morning, and I brought it with me to the wedding so I could have it at the show, and I did actually pull it out but after two pages was too tired to focus and put it down again. Still haven't gotten any further than that, so no spoilers!

During the second act, actors who are only in act one go up to the green room in the parlor, where we can be a lot louder. We ended up playing a game called Telephone Pictionary. You each take a piece of paper and write a word or phrase or sentence at the top, then pass it to the person next to you. They draw something to illustrated the phrase, then fold the paper so that the original phrase is hidden and pass it to the next person. That person has to look at the drawing and write down what they think it is, and fold the paper to hide the drawing. Then it gets passed again, and the next person draws an illustration of the new phrase. When you run out of paper or get bored, you open the paper and take a look at how the words and drawing have evolved. Most of them were laugh-until-you-cry funny — we were laughing so loud we were actually concerned we might be heard from downstairs. Someone has already volunteered to bring paper so we can play again today :)

After the show there was a run to Orleans. I was tired and thought about passing, but wanted to be social, especially now that the cast is really coming together. I ended up not leaving until midnight. They crowded us all in at a table with not quite enough space, but somehow that just ended up in lots of sitting on laps and cuddling on benches and piling all of the sexy women in on Zombie Shakespeare and the usual T@F hijinks. I'm getting on cuddly terms with lots of the cast, which makes me very happy. It's such a big group, I had worried about it coming together cohesively, but this is only the first weekend and I think we're still tighter than many of the casts I've been involved with; it's going to be really sad when the show ends, although I bet a lot of folks are going to stay Firsties now.

And now I have time to maybe read a few pages of Harry Potter before I go join all of my new friends for brunch and then to do it all again! If you haven't made it to the show yet, you've got another chance today at 3pm, and then next Thursday, Friday, or Saturday at 8. It's a really great show and it just keeps getting better — come check it out!
