Festival@First read-through
May. 22nd, 2007 10:45 amThat was SO MUCH FUN! What an amazing bunch of people we have assembled for this show. Some fabulous casting choices, and I was so relieved to get to finally read with my partner in Scripted and find how well suited we were together. This is going to be such a kick-ass show. Lots of old friends returning, lots of friendly new faces in both cast and crew (we have a zombie expert for makeup! how cool is that?) I love the show I'm in, I'm already having fun exploring my character and I think I'm going to enjoy living in her skin for a few months. Can't wait for our first rehearsal!

Date: 2007-05-22 03:31 pm (UTC)If the reactions of the actors are anything to go by, this show is gonna ROCK! I thought some of them were going to pee their pants, they were laughing so hard. People are definitely going to have to perfect the art of "waiting for the laughter to crest" before they go on.
Where do you come down on the "real every day life is good" versus "EXCITEMENT! THERE MUST BE EXCITEMENT" debate?

Date: 2007-05-22 03:52 pm (UTC)I'm definitely on the "real life good" side. I've never felt the need to be famous, I'd rather just be happy, and hopefully loved and respected by the people who really know me. What about you?

Date: 2007-05-22 04:05 pm (UTC)I am definitely of the "a good regular day is great!" I was just feeling rather mundane and a little old as I thought that last night. I think it's a Paul Simon song, maybe "Slip Slidin Away" where he sings about a woman saying "A good day...ain't got no rain" which may be a bit simplistic, but gets to the heart of it. That is a change for me...I used to have to go see a movie, or go to a party or see people and volunteer for something every day. I still do a lot, but I don't need to do some much anymore. And I value the "simple" time at home much more. And it makes the special days more special.

The phone rings. "You don't say... you don't say... you don't say?"

[LJ ate my first try at this, but I think this is close to what I said.]

Date: 2007-05-22 06:34 pm (UTC)I'm so relieved that my show (The Kiss) got about as many laughs as the other shows. It's by far the Least Weird Play by MHL that I've ever read, which is good in that it lends balance to the show (the scripts were chosen partly so that none of the plays sounded too much alike), and I also LOVE it (obviously) -- but I was a little worried people wouldn't find it as funny. But, seems I had nothing to worry about! :P
And Gilly, Scripted wasn't my favorite show during the initial play readings, but last night you and Christian convinced me that I was totally wrong about it. You were AWESOME.

Date: 2007-05-22 06:53 pm (UTC)And thank you so much! Scripted is definitely growing on me. I didn't love it at the initial reading, but I think there's a lot there to be mined (both comedy and meaning), and Christian and I seem to be a really good match. Yay for good casting!
