I love Davis Square
Feb. 6th, 2008 07:53 pmDinner tonight was a grilled cheese sandwich on fresh tomato bread from When Pigs Fly. I might have bought a loaf of their saurkraut rye, too, had they not been sold out. Thanks to
barodar for finally inspiring me to make it over there!
And on my way home I stopped in at Dave's Fresh Pasta and picked up some pasta to keep in the freezer, as well as some to eat in the next few days. They've also got some classes that sound pretty interesting, if I ever have the time. I wanted to try their wild mushroom cream sauce, but didn't think it would go with the spinach pasta I bought this time. Another time, perhaps. But they did have some mimolette, which is one of my favorite cheeses, so I splurged on a chunk of that.
And branching out to Porter… I stopped in the Porter Exchange to grab some dinner last night. Went in to the Kotobukiya market, but none of the flavors of onigiri they had left were really doing it for me. So I tried the sushi bar, but they only take cash and I didn't have enough on me (nor my ATM card, long story.) So I ended up trying the new Tavern in the Square. I had the pistachio-encrusted tuna salad, which had mixed greens, wasabi peas, crispy wontons, shaved cucumber, and citrus vinaigrette dressing. Not quite as fabulous as it sounded, but still damn tasty. I hear very good things about their maple sweet potato fries—will definitely have to go back to try those.
Anyone else have any local food finds to share?
