I've got to say, I'm really enjoying this unemployment thing. I don't want it to last all too much longer -- and I've got reasonable hopes that it won't, I have a bunch of irons in the fire and some decent prospects, although nothing specific at this point -- but so far it's been really great to have some time to myself to catch up on projects around the house, watch my dusty Netflix DVDs, get enough sleep, and even actually cook.

I decided pretty much on the spur of the moment (for me, planning only a week ahead is still sudden, ok?) to go to New York tomorrow, coming back Thursday. I haven't been there in almost a year, and I'm psyched to see my cousin and [livejournal.com profile] she_ragroupie, have some good kosher food, and hopefully catch a show. (I was planning to buy tickets to The Drowsy Chaperone, but I don't want to pay full price right now, and I can only find a discount code for seats halfway back in the mezzanine, and that's just not worth it to me. Yes, I do know I'm spoiled.) I might try TKTS, although standing on line for hours alone in the rain is not really how I want to spend my time.

For my own reference, I've made a google map of some of the things that I plan to do in New York one of these days. It's not very polished (or complete), but I figured I might as well mention it here in case anyone else is interested. I'm certainly open to suggestions for more things, too! I'm not big on art museums, but I love hands-on museums and tours.

I've always had good luck with TKTS. Each time I went on the weekend in nice weather to get tickets for a weekend matinee, I only waited maybe 45 minutes to an hour at most. I got to see Cats, Chicago, JC Superstar, and Aida all in this manner. Then again, I could have just lucked out the days I went. You can kind of tell how long the wait will be if you just see if the line is wrapping around or not...and if you're not picky on what you see, it's not a bad deal.

1) you must really like meat based on your restaurant list. Definitely try the bambi sampler at Levanna's
2) there is a TKTS in Times Square
3) Spamalot is a must see. Don't know much about ticket availability though
4) American Museum of Natural History: Dinosaurs on 4th floor, Hall of Biodiversity and Milstein Hall of Ocean Life on 2nd floor, Butterfly Conservatory no sure which floor but it's a special exhibit so there will be signage. Plus, go to the Rose Center and Hayden Planitarium.

Yonah Schimmel's Knishery is great for Knishes and Strudel! It's in the Village and I can give you the address if you are interested at all. I ate there last month and it was really super good, plus the staff is very nice.
