Arghh. I ordered tickets to the Kris Delmhorst cd release at the Somerville Theater weeks ago. I've really looking forward to the show; Peter Mulvey is playing with her, and they're my two favorite local musicians.

I just looked at my calendar and realized that it's the same night as Simchat Torah. I've been going to Tremont Street shul semi-regularly now, and they have the biggest bash in Boston for Simchat Torah, closing down the whole street and filling it with people singing and dancing with the Torah. I've been in past years and was a little overwhelmed because I didn't know anyone; I'd been looking forward to going this year now that I'm more comfortable there, and hopefully even getting to dance with a Torah. I don't see any way I can do both that night. I can go the next morning and still fulfill the mitzvah, but it's not really the same.

So do I go to the concert and feel like a bad Jew, or go to shul and miss a show I really want to go to (plus bail on friends on an outing I organized)? I'm leaning toward going to the concert, but I'm bummed either way. Sigh.

Oh no! :-/

Well, if the concert's at 8, you could come for a *little* while to Simchat Torah... I think the hakafot will be moving outdoors by around 7:30.

Arrrg! If you have to bail on the concert, I will be sad, but will totally understand. (And I'm positive I'll have no trouble getting someone to take your seat- though no one can fill your shoes (except with Jello- and even that won't work with the Tevas)).

what would give you more satisfaction? what would you regret more?

from what I do know of you, from our talks over the years, I would say you should go to shul..

you are one of the more spiritual and devoted people I know, and you draw a strength and inner peace from your spirituality. there will be other chances to see those artists..

but that's my .02..
