1 - I LOVE Carl Hiaasen (and it is 2 As). Have you read anything else by him? I own at least four of his books and have read two others but I haven't read that one. I'd recommend any of them, to anyone (and have! most notably to a nice homeless fellow in the worcester train station).

2 - I Capture the Castle is the only book I can recall that I actually did not bother to finish reading. I just couldn't get into it, I was reading it at the wrong time in my life and I returned it to the library totally unfinished. I got maybe halfway through it.

1 - (it's okay, I spelled it wrong for ages!) The first book I read was SKIN TIGHT and it was excellent. I also own Sick Puppy, Stormy Weather and Basket Case (which was also super-excellent). I've also read Tourist Season and Lucky You. Lucky You was also pretty good. Really, ALL of the ones I've read were good but those (Skin Tight, Basket Case, Lucky You) are the ones I'd recommend first.

2 - I'm sure it is great - but I was suffering some seriously unrequited love (or rather, originally requited but distanced and possibly unrequited due to mental instability on the part of my partner) and I just... it hurt too much. I thought, if this ends well, it will highlight everything I've lost. If this ends badly, it will only make me feel worse.
I'll read it someday. I just couldn't read it THEN.

Oh my god, wasn't I Capture the Castle amazing? It's not often I read a book and have it vault immediately into my top 25 or so favorites.

How was Hoot? It's almost embarrassing that I haven't read it yet.

I loved that book. I grew up on it. The movie of 101 Dalmations always perplexed me because it was so different. I guess I like them both, but I like the book better.

I just remembered -- I liked Castle so much that I actually got every female member of my family to read it over Christmas break. Not bad, considering how long it is.

I saw a preview for a movie called Hoot. I've read other Hiaasen but not that book. Is the movie a weird name coincidence, or based on the book?

Yup, it's based on the book!
