Thursday I visited the Museum of the Moving Image. They have a great exhibit, full on hands-on activities. I got to animate a short file, provide ADR (Additional Dialogue Recording, or looping) for Dorothy in the Wizard of Oz, score a film, provide sound effects for the Marx Brothers, crop West Side Story for pan-and-scan (which they clearly are not fans of) and lots of other fun things, as well as watch videos on special effects, interviews with actors and directors, see lots of costumes and make-up, and much much more. I'm fascinated with all the steps that go into making movies and tv shows, so it was great to really see for myself what goes into some of the pieces. I love hands-on museums; I have limited patience for reading exhibits, but anything where I get to play with it, I'm happy for hours. And luckily most of the time I was there there were maybe one or two other people on the floor with me, so I didn't have to push any small children out of the way for my turn.

I love that museum!

When I was a kid, they created the Hot Circuits exhibit of arcade video games. They had the original Computer Space and Pong machines on display, and then about thirty other games which you could play -- $1 for 5 tokens.

It was wonderful.

Oh cool! I'll have to do that when I go down to NYC again ... someday. :)
