Free Macallan tasting! I'm going to the one on Wednesday, 9/17/2008 6:30 pm - 8:00 pm, if anyone wants to join me, but there are a few other nights and times. It's not a Islay, of course, but not bad stuff, either :)

True, but it's such a tasty speyside malt.

Are you more inclined toward Bowmore or Laphroig?
Caol Illa or Port Ellen?
And will Ardbeg do in a pinch?

Laphroig. I like Caol Illa, haven't tried Port Ellen. And I had an Ardbeg in a duty-free shop that was one of the best whiskeys I've ever tasted -- wish I knew what bottling one it was!

Laphroig was the first malt I was introduced to that I liked.

Port Ellen was my favorite for a long time, then I discovered Caol Illa. Bowmore is for regular evenings.

Yeah, I have some Bowmore Darkest around because it's cheap, but it's definitely not my favorite.

I never really understood why people went so nuts over single malt until I tried Caol Ila.
