Whoof

It's been quite a day so far. The Dance Complex had their annual Open House; free half-hour dance classes from noon to 4pm. I got there in time to catch the stretching at the start of the first class, and struggled my way through the Modern and Jazz/Funk classes.

The open house classes are always insane; very crowded, and they're teaching a full routine in half an hour, so it moves *fast*. I ended up dropping out of both classes near the end because I just couldn't see well enough to pick up the moves, but it was enough to give me a feel for the styles. I liked modern a lot more than I expected, and jazz/funk much less. The next class was African, which seemed surprisingly balletic, but when the third move in the combination was a split, I decided that it was time for me to split as well. I haven't done any dance in a long time, and I was definitely feeling it. I had thought of possibly taking one of those classes, but after a conversation with [livejournal.com profile] muffyjo this morning I'm leaning towards a hula class that she found for me not far from [livejournal.com profile] ironpoet's. I've always wanted to really learn hula, and I think the hands from that might help me in theater, as well.

After the dance classes, I went to Porter Square to run some errands, and spent a lovely time wandering around Porter Square Books and getting a fresh spring roll from the café there. Then I walked back to Davis, stopping in O'Naturals ostensibly to buy an apple strudel and iced tea, but mostly to take advantage of their bathroom and WiFi. Got home just as the rain started up, and now I'm in clean non-sweaty clothes and trying to get up the energy to make it to the [livejournal.com profile] theatreatfirst steering committee meeting. Funny, it feels like bedtime to me.

I'm told it's ok to post this now, so I just thought I'd let people know that I was not cast for the T@F One-Acts. I don't envy the directors the job of casting that show. I was there both nights, and I saw the amazing talent that turned out -- I think it was 48 people for 19 roles, with many many new faces. I know how hard it must have been to put together casts that work together for all eight shows. I'm really happy for my friends who were cast, I looking forward to meeting all the new folks, and I can't wait to see the show!

(Really, no sympathy needed. Sure, I was initially disappointed, but I never took it as any reflection on my ability, and I'm honesty excited about taking this time to do something other than act for a change.)

pill necklaceI've been showing off my fabulous Pill necklace, but this is one of those things that the more people have, the better! This is a necklace made of actual birth control pills. The sales go to support Planned Parenthood of Greater Cleveland. There are a bunch of different styles available. They look cool, and they're a great conversation piece — order yours today!
