We had solo auditions for the Vivaldi Gloria tonight in choir. I did not get the solo I really love, but I was honestly pleased that a friend of mine did, and I felt like at least I sang well enough to have been considered. (I used to get so nervous for auditions that pretty much nothing came out; now I certainly don't sound as good as I do alone in my bedroom, but I'm getting better.)
There is another alto solo, but I didn't even bother to practice that; it's a much trickier and longer one, and the long phrases really need better breath support than I currently have. Turns out no one else had prepared it either, so the director just started asking some of us to get up and give it a try. After a few of us tried it alone he started having us do it in various combinations, and, well, to make a long story short, I ended up as a member of a quartet. Somehow that's a lot less scary than singing it alone, too, so I think I'll actually enjoy it more.
But now you all *really* have to come to the concert! Saturday, December 4, 4pm, at the North-Prospect Church in Porter Square.
