font geekery

I'm really amused that the "Please, no tips" sign in Dunkin' Donuts was done in a font called Hobo.

Funny thing...I was at Dunkin' Donuts in the Galleria yesterday, and I saw the manager gather up all the tips from the 3 tip jars in a bag and take them in the back room. I started to wonder if the staffers get any of the tips, or if management keeps them. When I worked at Friendly's during college, management kept the wait staff's tips. Hope that's not the case nowadays.

That is so so so wrong.

When I worked for Starbucks, the manager collected the tips at the end of each shift and divided the total among the people who'd worked that shift. Same thing happened when I worked for Ben & Jerry's, except that the manager was also required to log how much was in the tip jar at the end of each shift--I guess they thought it'd help them track which workers were giving exemplary (tipworthy) service.

It's at moments like this when I understand so clearly, why I adore you as much as I do. :) That's wonderful.

"No tips" at Dunkin' Donuts? This is the first I've heard of it. Out our way, there are always LARGE tip jars on the counters.
