I'm probably not giving her enough credit - once we found a way to explain our "weird" choices to my rather judgmental extended family (i.e. "Oh, it's a Scandinavian tradition from the groom's family!"), things were easier for her. Mostly, her reaction was based on what she KNEW (correctly!!) what her family's reaction would be... and it really wasn't worth the grief.
Andy & I picked out the final invitation ourselves, but we picked it from a shop with samples, so mom agreed that anything we picked was probably "normal" these days. It could've been so much worse!
